      Hello,

I'm going round in circles with this issue, so hopefully someone can help...

The Moz crawl of my website lists a number of pages as "missing canonical url". The pages are all different and do not have similar content.

Do I need to add a canonical url to each page? My agency quoted the following (x referencing this page: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/crawling/consolidate-duplicate-urls)

      • list itemYou would use Canonical URLs if:

      • list item"...you have a single page that's accessible by multiple URLs, or different pages with similar content (for example, a page with both a mobile and a desktop version), Google sees these as duplicate versions of the same page."

      • list itemThis is not the case here and so we would not propose to change anything. We could add Canonical URLs if the client feels that it is critical which occurs an additional cost.

Any help / advice much appreciated.

      Thanks

@rj_dale if I'm reading your issue correctly, all the pages/content is unique and you simply need to ensure that you are canonical-ing back to itself, ensuring that the pages have a similar tag pointed to that unique page itself in the <head>:

          <link rel="canonical" href="https://www.website.com/page/" />

Basically, having it point back to itself if it's a unique page is a good thing, most CMSs handle this, but sometimes creation variables stop that from happening.

Hope that answers your question (if I'm understanding what you were asking correctly)!

Unsolved Product search menu Canonical tag and missing description errors

canonical search results metadata meta tags

We have recently migrated to an entirely new website, Moz is now picking up many meta data issues, the bulk of these are from descriptions and missing canonical tags from product search pages (i.e, customer searches for a product and the search results page is the one being picked up, is this is a big issue for the site's overall SEO rating and if so what can be done to resolve this?

"Duplicate without user-selected canonical” - impact to Google Ads costs

            google ads canonical

Hello, we are facing some issues on our project and we would like to get some advice. Scenario
We run several websites (www.brandName.com, www.brandName.be, www.brandName.ch, etc..) all in French language . All sites have nearly the same content & structure, only minor text (some headings and phone numbers due to different countries are different). There are many good quality pages, but again they are the same over all domains. Current solution
            Currently we don’t use canonicals, instead we use rel="alternate" hreflang="x-default": <link rel="alternate" hreflang="fr-BE" href="https://www.brandName.be/" /> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="fr-CA" href="https://www.brandName.ca/" /> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="fr-CH" href="https://www.brandName.ch/" /> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="fr-FR" href="https://www.brandName.fr/" /> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="fr-LU" href="https://www.brandName.lu/" /> <link rel="alternate" hreflang="x-default" href="https://www.brandName.com/" /> Naturally this si reflected in ""Duplicate without user-selected canonical” . Issue
We create the same ad in Google Ads for 2 domains. So the content is mostly identical, ads are identical, target URLs differ only in domain. Yet Google Ads “Quality score” is different (10/10 vs. 6/10) and “Landing page experience” is very different (Above average vs. Average). Some members of our team think lower “Landing page experience” increases the Google Ads costs, which I personally don't believe, but I want to double check. Question: Can “Duplicate without user-selected canonical” issue decrease the “Landing page experience” rating and as result can it cause higher Google ads costs? Any suggestions/ideas appreciated, thanks. Regards.

            canonical google webmaster

In Google Webmaster Tools, I have a coverage issue. I am getting this error message: Alternate page with proper canonical tag Status: Excluded. It gives the below blog post page as an example. Any idea how to resolve? At one time, I was using handl utm grabber, but the plugin is deactivated on my website. https://www.savacations.com/turrialba-costa-ricas-garden-city/?utm_source=deleted&utm_medium=deleted&utm_term=deleted&utm_content=deleted&utm_campaign=deleted&gclid=deleted5.

my site has 17.5m Total links according to Moz (16.6m internal follow & 840k no follow) i think i have a problem...

            help canonical

We are hosted by visual soft and it is a proprietory platform so we dont have full control of our site.
in comparison, 3 of our main competitors, two of which are way way bigger than us have 1.4m & 4.7m - another one still probably double or perhaps triple our size is @ 2.5m Should i worry?
Should i post my website url on here?
I would like to start working on canonical links on my site but not sure where to start, does moz pro have some sort of check or rating, i have no idea if even the basics mentioned in the tutorials have been done....

Why put rel=canonical to the same url ?

Hi all. I've heard that it's good to put the link rel canonical in your header even when there is no other important or prefered version of that url. If you take a look at moz.com and see the code, you'll see that they put the <link rel="<a class="attribute-value">canonical</a>" href="http://moz.com" /> ... pointing at the same url ! But if you go to http://moz.com/products/pricing for example, they have no canonical there ! WHY ? Thanks in advance !

Will rel canonical tags remove previously indexed URLs?

Hello, 7 days ago, we implemented canonical tags to resolve duplicate content issues that had been caused by URL parameters. These "duplicate content" had already been indexed. Now that the URLs have rel canonical tags in place, will Google automatically remove from its index the other URLs with the URL parameters? I ask because we have been tracking the approximate number of URLs indexed by doing a site: search in Google, and we have barely noticed a decrease in URLs indexed. Thanks.

Duplicate page content issue needs resolution.

After my last "crawl" report, I received a warning about "duplicate page content". One page was: http://anycompany.com and the other was: http://anycompany.com/home.html How do I correct this so these pages aren't competing with each other or is this a problem?
